personality
Katana was expected to be a bit stubborn. She was not expected to be a complete and total mule, however. Her attitude is almost tangible and she always seems to be on the edge of taking someone's head off. She was born a beautiful living flame and she personifies the element quite well. Touch her, fight her and she will roar to life and burn you down leaving you battered in her wake. Katana looks like a sweet filly with her intelligent eyes and her gentle alertness. She doesn't mind treats or petting, but she sure doesn't like to be told what to do. Katana doesn't mind a good battle, but she also possesses a willingness to compete and defeat her opponents.
Which leads into the fact that Katana was an absolute nightmare to train. So distracted was the filly that she would almost run into railings because she was gawking at something a quarter mile away or on the other side of the railing. Fitted with the blinkers, the filly is much more focused on her job and less of a danger to her rider and other horses. Harnessing her speed was also a challenge. While her sire and dam tended to be off the pace, Katana was an absolute hot head. She tends to get washy on her way to work out, whinnying and screaming her fool head off. Ear stuffies were put in, eliminating the noise and a major change came over her, but she was still hot to trot. She'll fidget in the gate, but the gating crew at Witch Creek was able to get her to understand the point. Once she breaks, Katana has to be ridden as though she is a champion. She loathes anyone being on her mouth and likes to do things her own way. She'll settle off the front runners and into a very impressive rhythm. She's like riding in a Cadillac, so smooth and easy is her movement. On the far turn, Katana will pull her rider to the lead and duke it out with anyone willing to go toe to toe with her.
