Key Westpedigree |
personality
Key is an eager beaver kind of colt. Always itching to be on the move, he can't keep still for a single moment. In the beginning, we thought it was a side-effect of boredom so we put the colt out to pasture more, gave him more light breezes on the track, but he still returned to his stall to bite at the stall door, or prance around in circles. He's just full of energy. Key is the first horse to greet you at the paddock fence, a cookie hound to the core. He's one of the easy keepers of the barn because of his mellow personality and ability to accept any new environment. He'll be the first horse to chomp on a bite of grass at a place he's never seen in his life. Key has a been there, done that kind of personality which is a blessing in itself.
Out on the track he'll give off the impression that he's a bit on the goofy side because he'll prance around and have his mind set on everything but running. It takes an experienced jockey to get this colt's mind back on the more important things and ease him into the starting gate. He likes to break slow out of the gate and mingle with the rest of the pack before gradually snaking his way towards the front. He isn't the type of horse that likes to steal the spotlight like many front-runners. It typically takes a few cracks of the whip and a whole lot of chirping to get him going, but once he's rolling, Key is like a freight train. His long legs eat up the ground and he'll pin ears back until they blend in with his mane. He's the horse that is always coming, it's just a matter of time of when he shows up at the wire. Key isn't one for runaway victories, but he is the type to nail you right on the line, much to his opponents' annoyance.
