personality
Lassie is the epitome of what a classic racehorse should be. She is scopey and athletic, alert and focused. She has a fine tuned frame of mind that seemed to be on racing before she was even in training. As a baby, Lassie would race up and down the pastures, egging on the boys and fueling Wild Annie's fire. She's a jackrabbit quick filly and she loves a challenge. She is very high energy and can be a bit of a twit in the barn when she is being tacked up. She'll dance and spin around, necessitating someone always at her head to keep her still. Her intelligence creates this inner storm because she knows when she is saddled she is going to work. When she is at her crazy peak, Lassie will have to go out twice for an hour jog around the dirt track and campus and then a gallop in the afternoon over the dirt hills. She muscles up like a colt thanks to all this work and really thrives off of it.
It seemed odd to combine a sprinter stallion with the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner, but Witch Creek likes to push the boundaries. Lassie is the perfect combination of her grade one winning parents. On the track, Lassie practically jumps into the bit and will roll over the grass course like few turf runners before her. She reminds everyone of Artemis' Glory and Feline Frenzy in this way. She just seems to know what her job is and she listens to her rider very well. In a race, Wayward Lass is a very quick breaking horse. She snaps to attention and will run with the front runners briefly before settling down behind them. She has a quick, buoyant stride and will always have one ear pointing forward and one ear pointing backward. All ears for the biggest threat. Off the far turn, Lassie will motor up to the front runners and can be quite dazzling in her display of speed. She doesn't pull herself up and typically runs hard through the wire every time.
